1. Acceptance

    

It’s a natural part of growing

 

Your child is going to go through teething, there are so many things out there available to help soothe them in this time. Some things are going to work, others aren’t. Stay open to testing it out, keep calm and patient with them and yourself in this time, especially if baby is your first!

 

 

2. Amber beads

I’ve found Amber Beads to work almost instantly and then other time not work at all!

 

Baltic amber releases a tiny bit of oil that contains succinic acid, a naturally-occurring substance in the body. When the oil is absorbed it has an analgesic effect on swollen, sore gums.

 

Babies who take to amber beads can sometimes see through their whole teething experience with only a few odd off days!

 

But if they don’t work don’t worry, theres still plenty more tricks to try!

 

 

3. Reflexology

    

Time to study

 

Our feet are connected to our whole body, there are certain pressure points on the toes that are connected to the mouth, gums and teeth.

 

Massaging in specific way on certain area’s calms and relaxes the baby so much that they drift off into a peaceful sleep…but you’ve got to do a bit of research!

 

There is access to so much knowledge of reflexology in books, so grab yourself a couple as soon as possible and get reading!

 

This way has helped soothe all of my children so I would highly recommend investing time learning this way.

 

 

4. Frozen cucumber

    

QUICK, SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE

 

Cucumber is cooling and nourishing on the gums, freezing it just adds to the soothing the heat from teething.

 

If they’re very young just quarter the cucumber lengthways then place it in the freezer for 30 minutes.

 

Doing it this way makes it safe for them to hold and not choke! (Obviously watch them while they have it!)

 

Teething continues through many years, as they get older you can juice the cucumber and use it to make ice lollies, adding in other ingredients.

 

 

5. Chamomile

    

The herb with many ways

 

From adding into bathes, to making tea, or in homeopathic remedies, Chamomile has worked time and time again.

 

Chamomile has strong soothing medicinal powers, and paired up with teething this can get your baby smiling again!

 

If you get the Chamomilla homeopathic remedy, be sure to go to a certified homeopath. If you’re not sure where one is a quick online search will show you!

 

Also, whenever possible choose fresh dried chamomile to make tea and for bathing.

 

 

6. Essential oils

    

Burning , bathing, mixing

 

Burning - putting a few drops of lavender, geranium and frankincense into an oil burner can fill the air with a beautiful calming, soothing and clearing sweet smell.

 

Bathing - into a warm bath put a few drops of lavender, let your baby soak for as long as they will allow - unless it gets cold, then take them out!

 

Mixing - for massage. Mix with pure raw cold pressed coconut oil 1-2 drops of lavender oil. Massage their head gently, the back of their neck and feet with this mix, then watch them relax!

 

 

7. Distraction

    

CALM THE MIND

 

Something as simple as going for a walk in the park, dance around listening to music or watching something positive can take your baby’s attention away from their teething pains.

 

This gives their bodies a chance to relax, feel good and fall asleep. It also give you time to refresh, recharge and have a moment to give some love to yourself!

 

 

8. Teething toys

    

Which ones to choose!

 

There are so many to choose from on the market now, this option can be so confusing!

What I have found is that the wooden, tactile and playful ones work the best.

But in honestly, teething toys only worked on 1 out of 4 of my children, it can also be costly buying a range so I’d say buy no more than 2, if your child doesn’t take to it move on!

 

 

9. Skin to skin time

    

Feel the Connection

 

With young teething babies, skin to skin contact calms and reassures your baby that you are near.

 

Sometimes the simplicity of knowing they are with you and feeling your warmth sends them off into a deep sleep.

 

It is important that in this time of pain they feel your connection and love.

 

 

10. A spoonful of medicine

    

WHEN THE PAIN GETS TOO MUCH

 

For some babies, they just can’t handle the pain as well as others.

 

In them, a spoonful of baby friendly pain relief can give them enough time to sleep soundly and build back up strength for the next day.

 

 

Try not to get in a habit of reaching for this medicine first, keep persisting with other ways too but just keep it to hand in case of necessity.
