Essentials for Autumn Health...

October 13, 2018

The season has officially switched... and with all the outside changes theres also some internal changes too, mostly coming with coughs, colds, sniffles and headaches.

This is the perfect time to start stocking up your home with the essentials that will help you be able to hold off sick bugs, strengthen your immune system and heal quicker should you catch one of the millions of bugs floating around!

But WHAT are the essentials!?

There are a few "essentials" for different area's of your lives, I've divided them up into categories - PLEASE NOTE... If I was to write explanations and reasons for each ingredient, this would quickly become an essay! Please, if you don't know about the health benefits of these ingredients, or how to use them... do some research - and look for recipes with these ingredients online (I'll add some useful links at the bottom of this post)!:

Herbs and Spices >>>

Ginger - Fresh root

Thyme - Fresh

Turmeric - Fresh root and ground

Cayenne Pepper - ground

Cumin - seed

Rosemary - Fresh

Pimento Berries

Breakfast Toppers / Snacks >>>

Chia Seeds

Cacao Nibs

Pumpkin Seeds

Hemp Seeds and Oil

Nuts (a mixed variety - no salt)

Infuse with water >>>

(note... all of the herbs and spices can be used in water too)

Coconut Oil

Sweet Potato

Plenty of Green and purple veg

Lots of fresh seasonal fruit

Good Salt - one with actual minerals in it! ;)

I was an adult when it really dawned on me that our skin is our biggest organ, yet we literally rub, soak, pour toxic chemicals directly onto it to help "look after" how it looks, as oppose to functions... we need to be really careful as to what we put on, it gets ABSORBED directly into our blood streams and can play a huge role in causing sickness.

Try and replace as much as you can with 100% natural, pure ingredients - and don't fall for the front label marketing.... turn it over and READ THE LABELS!!! If you don't know what the ingredients are, how they were made and the possible side effects, FIND OUT!!!

So have a check in your bathroom, that includes those shampoos, conditioners, hair products, body soaps, bubble baths, bath bombs, creams and anything else you put onto your hair and skin... is there anything that could be replaced with something better?

ALSO, get yourself a really good cream for this season too, not only to protect from the cold wet weather, but to nourish from the super sunny summer we've said goodbye to! (I can think of a good one from a trustworthy person!! :) SHOP HERE)

Again... in categories! There is one thing that fits into all categories, and that is Apple Cider Vinegar - an true essential for so many things!

Coughs and Colds

Mix in a saucepan on a low heat -

1 Ltr Spring Water

handful of pimento

2 inch piece of ginger

1 small bunch thyme

1 Orange, sliced with peel on

1 Lime, same as orange!

8 - 10 Garlic Cloves, whole

1 inch piece turmeric root

1 tbsp ground turmeric

2 Tbsp Coconut Nectar

- Leave for 20 minutes, take off heat, cover and leave to steep for 30 minutes. Pour mug fulls (draining ingredients and just drink water!) throughout the day/night... repeat until feeling better!

NOTE... Add 1 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar to every mug poured, not to the actual mix. ;)

Nausea and Vomiting

Peppermint Tea

Ginger Tea

Nettle Tea

At the first feelings of nausea take a spoonful in half a glass of water... sip slowly! If you've already been sick take a spoon of apple cider vinegar straight. It will be harsh on the stomach, but trust me it WILL work!

Cuts and Bruises

Keep an Aloe Vera plant in your home - even a few if there's a few bodies! This is great rubbed directly onto bruises, burns, and minor grazes. Make sure you've got an organic Aloe plant or you might end up rubbing some chemicals on.

Keep some Lavender Essential Oil around, this is great to

- mix 2-3 drops (**check online for specific quantities for different ages and sizes) in with some coconut oil and use to rub on bruises, scabs and cuts.  **This is also great for headaches - rub this mix on the back of neck, head and feet**

- put 2 drops into sterile water to clean any cuts, scabs or grazes.

And... ARNICA 30c, especially with little ones, the amount of bumps and knocks they have arnica is a great thing to keep at home and carry with you to keep bruising to a minimum and healing time speedy too! It's also great for any shocks and frights too.
